Inspired by Día de los Muertos, I decided to focus my “ceremony” painting on this annual celebration. Día de los Muertos is the Mexican Day of The Dead; where the lives of loved ones who have passed away are celebrated by festivities, mantle pieces filled with photos/memories that the living have with the deceased, and where life is celebrated and remembered. Every year, candles are lit, tapestries are worn—this day brings the Mexican community together. It is a way to heal from loss, to remember them, and to celebrate their impact in our lives.
