I originally bought a white, lace dress from a flea market with an intention: I specifically wanted to play with lace and how it transfers media onto a surface—or how the media bleeds through the fabric. A white dress symbolizes purity, virginity. By deliberately tainting it (using ink and charcoal on its layers and fabric), it will never go back to it’s original colour—or to its original form. The white dress has turned black and grey, and is ultimately sacrificed for the drawing.
Charcoal and ink on Rives BFK White, 22 by 30 inches.
